-This guide is a help to all those who want groped the creation of a fake rock background .The Reptile Hunter Team is keen to point out that what follows is not the only possible method , but there are several others , we find ourselves comfortable with this technique and all of our backgrounds are made as follows .

-STEP 1
Ritagliate i fogli di polistirolo dello spessore di un centimetro e inseriteli all interno del vostro terrario per rivestire l angolo posteriore e gli angoli laterali avendo cura di ritagliare gli spazi per eventuali prese d aria.
incollate i fogli di polistirolo tra loro con il silicone, avrete cosi realizzato la base sulla quale verrà costruito lo sfondo.
Il nostro consiglio è quello di svolgere le prime fasi dell incollaggio all interno del terrario e di non tentare la costruzione fuori da esso perchè spesso le misure risultano inprecise e lo sfondo una volta creato entra a fatica o addirittura non entra piu.
-STEP 1
Cut the sheets of polystyrene with a thickness of an inch and insert theminside of your terrarium to coat the back corner and side corners , taking care to cut out the space for possible air intakes .
glued sheets of polystyrene between them with silicone , so you will have made the foundation on which the background will be built .Our advice is to carry out the first stages of bonding inside the terrarium and not groped to build off it because the measures are often inprecise and the background once created enters fatigue or even not enter more .
-STEP 2
Ricavate numerosi pezzi di polistirolo di diverse forme e dimensioni che saranno le vostre future rocce. Cercate di variare il piu possibile in modo tale che successivamente potrete scegliere tra diverse opzioni di incastro e struttura.
-STEP 2
Formed many pieces of polystyrene of various shapes and sizes, these will be the future rocks.Try to vary as much as possible so that later you can choose from several options ininterlocking and structure .
-STEP 3
Una volta ritagliate un numero sufficiente di rocce iniziate a smussare con il cutter o con un coltello tutti i bordi e gli spigoli che rendono la roccia poco naturale. Cercate quindi di creare degli incavi e delle forme tondeggianti per garantire successivamente all insieme un aspetto piu realistico.
-STEP 3
After cutting a sufficient number of rocks started to smooth out with the cutter or a knife all the edges and corners that makethe rock unnatural . You should therefore create the grooves and rounded shapes to ensure a more realistic look to the whole.
-STEP 4
Una volta rifinite le rocce iniziate a posizionarle all interno del terrario a contatto con i fogli di polistirolo precedentemente ritagliati ( step 1 ). Il nostro consiglio è di procedere lentamente e man mano che la struttura vi soddisfa incollare le rocce con il silicone, inoltre vi consigliamo di inserire sul fondo le rocce piu larghe e man mano completare la struttura con quelle piu piccole. Ricordate inoltre che lo sfondo viene creato oltre che per un fattore puramente estetico anche per favorire il benessere degli animali e aumentare la superficie a loro disposizione, provvedete dunque a realizzare delle tane tra le rocce e delle superfici dove gli animali possano stazionare.
-STEP 4
Once finished the rocks started to place them inside the terrarium in contact with polystyrene sheets previously cut (step 1 ) . Our advice is to go slowly and gradually that the structure satisfies you paste the rocks with silicone , we
also recommend to include more large rocks on the bottom,and gradually complete the structure with smaller ones. Remember also that thebackground is created as well as a purely aesthetic factor also to promote the animal welfare and increase the surface area to their disposal , provide therefore to make some holes in the rocks, and areas where animals can be stationed.
-STEP 5
Se siete soddisfatti dell aspetto del vostro sfondo il passo successivo è quello di riempire gli spazi tra roccia e roccia con la schiuma poliuretanica, questo conferirà maggiore resistenza a tutta la struttura e eviterà che i vostri animali si inseriscano dietro lo sfondo, inoltre renderà piu naturale e omogeneo tutto l insieme.
-STEP 5
If you’re happy with the look of your background the next step is to fill the spaces between rock and rock with foam
polyurethane , this will give greater strength to the whole structure and will prevent your pet fit behind the background , also make all more natural and homogeneous.
-STEP 6
Dopo che il poliuretano e il silicone saranno asciutti potrete eliminare con il cutter tutte le parti in eccesso.
Inoltre e questa è una parte fondamentale utilizzate l accendino sulle rocce per creare tutte le imperfezioni tipiche della roccia, noterete che essa risulterà molto piu naturale. Il nostro consiglio è quello di procedere lentamente anche in questa fase passando da roccia a roccia, evitate di tenere la fiamma dell accendino troppo a lungo sullo stesso punto perchè il risultato sarà poco realistico e rovinerete la roccia.
-STEP 6
After the polyurethane and silicone will be dry , you can remove all the excess with the cutter.Furthermore ,this is a key part ,use the lighter on the rocks to create all the imperfections typical of the rock , you will notice
that it will be much more natural . Our advice is to proceed slowly even at this stage, going from rock to
rock , do not keep the flame of the lighter too long on the same spot because the result will be unrealistic and the rock will be ruined.
-STEP 7
Una volta soddisfatti dell insieme estraete lo sfondo dal terrario posizionatelo su un telo da pittura o su qualsiasi superficie che potete rischiare di macchiare senza problemi. A questo punto utilizzate un grosso pennello e cominciate a rivestire tutto lo sfondo con il fondo opaco all acqua. Ovviamente potete evitare di dipingere la parte posteriore e le parti laterali dello sfondo cioè quelle a contatto con le pareti del terrario. Il nostro consiglio è quello di abbondare con il fondo opaco all acqua, ricoprite per bene tutte le roccie e i bordi superiori dello sfondo perche una volta indurito sarà la base su cui pitturerete.
-STEP 7
Once satisfied with the resultremove the background from the terrarium ,place it on any surface that you can
risk of staining with no problems. At this point, use a large brush and begin to cover the entire background with the matt water-based basecoat.
Of course you can avoid painting the back and sides of the background, the parts in contact with the
walls of the terrarium. Our advice is to abound with the matt water-based basecoat ,cover well all the rocks and theupper edges of the background because, once cured, will be the basis on which you’ll paint.
-STEP 8
Una volta asciutto per questo sfondo abbiamo mescolato al fondo opaco all acqua il colore acrilico nero fino a ottenere un grigio chiaro omogeneo, quindi abbiamo ricoperto nuovamente lo sfondo per una seconda volta. Questo passo è utile sia per aumentare lo spessore della copertura sopra le rocce che per dare il colore di fondo a tutta la struttura.
-STEP 8
Once dry,for this background we mixed matt water-based basecoat with black acrylic paint to get a light homogeneous gray ,so we covered the background again for a second time. This step is useful both to increase the thicknesscover over the rocks and also to give the background color to the whole structure .
-STEP 9
Da questo momento in poi potete sbizzarrirvi per colorare la roccia nel modo che preferite. Aiutatevi con delle immagini di rocce vere o usate quelle che avete in casa. Il nostro consiglio è di procedere ” a strati ” cioè utilizzate varie tonalità di colore una sopra l altra per arrivare al colore definitivo. Questa è la fase piu importante quella che decide l aspetto definitivo del vostro sfondo di roccia finta. Procedete lentamente ed evitate pennellate omogenee , utilizzate pennelli di piccole dimensioni picchiettando col colore sulla roccia.
-STEP 9
From this moment on , you can paint the rock the way you want . Help yourself with images of real rocks or
use the ones you have at home. Our advice is to proceed “thick ” and then used various shades of color on top of each other for get to the final color . This step is the most important one that decides the final appearance of your fake rock background .Proceed slowly and avoid brush strokes smooth , use a small brush with color by tapping on the rock.
-STEP 10
Questo è il passo finale, una volta asciugatosi il colore se il tutto vi soddisfa non vi resta che passare sullo sfondo il protettivo trasparente per parquet o comunque qualsiasi prodotto protettivo che crei una sorta di pellicola sulla superficie. Quest ultimo passo è fondamentale in previsione del fatto che le unghie dei vostri animali potrebbero grattare via il colore dallo sfondo e le loro feci potrebbero macchiarlo, con un adeguata quantità di protettivo eviterete questi problemi e potrete tranquillamente pulire lo sfondo con un panno o scottex bagnato.
-STEP 10
This is the final step , once dried up the color if you are satisfied with everything you just have to pass the background with the transparent protective for parquet or otherwise any product that creates a sort of protective film on the surface . This last step is crucial in view of the fact that the nails of your pets could scrape off the color from the background and their feces may cause stains ,with an adequate amount of protection you will avoid these problems , and you can safely clean background with a cloth or paper towel wet.
